What is Neighbourcare?

In rural areas it is sometimes difficult to use public transport or get help when it is needed. Neighbourcare groups are set up to try to alleviate these problems. There are over 100 such groups in Hampshire. They are voluntary and independent but are supported by the advisers from the Good Neighbours Support Service.

Awbridge Neighbourcare aims to provide transport to medical or medically-related appointments for residents in Awbridge and neighbouring areas, such as Newtown, Dunbridge, Carters Clay and Stanbridge Earls. Other small tasks, such as shopping, collecting prescriptions and help with information, are also offered.

Other local groups include Romsey Good Neighbours, RADISH, Wellow Care Group, Thorngate Village Care Group, Somborne Neighbourcare, Broughton Good Neighbours and Whiteparish Links.

How does Awbridge Neighbourcare work?

Our group has a team of volunteer co-ordinators who will receive requests by telephone and try to match those requests with offers of help from the volunteers.

Volunteers are all DBS (formerly CRB) checked, insured and have identity cards.

Where transport is provided, a valid TVBC Farepass can be used but a donation is also requested to help cover our running costs.
