New Village Hall web site
| | A new dedicated web site can now be found here . | Football returns to Awbridge | | The Committee are pleased to announce that negotiations are in hand with Tadburn (Youth) Footbal Club who would like to use the main football pitch area for junior football matches at regular intervals through the coming season. They will be maintaining the ground at their own expense and also making a financial contribution to our funds but above all it is great news to see football being played once again in Awbridge. We extend a warm welcome to the players and their families and hope that our association with then will be a long and successful one. Any local youngsters interested in joining the Club can contact Dave Haycock on 01794 517868 and we are sure he will be pleased to help. Villagers will have noticed that the works to the old Awbridge Football Club Pavilion have now been completed and the facility is now in regular use. Our association with Sozo is proving to be very successful and we cordially invite villagers to attend the formal opening by the Mayor of Romsey on Saturday 26th November. The Committee have become increasingly concerned at the potential danger of trespass on to the main field and playing areas and have decided to commission a new metal fence across the main gap between the main hall and the pavilion. The fence will incorporate a secure gate to enable the mower to have easy access and there will be ample provision for pedestrian access around either side. Sozo have generously offered a financial contribution towards the cost of the works which should be in hand in a month or two. We are disappointed to have to report that vandalism has again become an issue in the Village Hall precincts with damage to rainwater pipes and gutterings and to the electrical installation. The resultant repairs cost a lot of money and effort and it is hard to understand how anyone could behave in this way in this peaceful place. If anyone sees anything suspicious please help us by calling the Police or a Committee member. | Awbridge Village Hall, a new message from the Committee | 14-03-2005 | Following our message to the village recently about the letting of the old football club building, a well attended meeting of the villagers on Tuesday 15th March approved the new lease by unanimous majority which enabled us to proceed to sign the formal documents. The lease was duly completed on Wednesday the 30th March 2005 and it is understood that builders will be moving soon after. We hope you will be interested in the progress of the works and we wish Sozo International every success with their proposed venture. This lifts a great financial burden from the shoulders of the War Memorial Trust which should in due time enable us to improve the maintenance of the building and provide further facilities. | Awbridge Village Hall, a message from the Committee | | We hope that our friends in the village may have noticed the Official Notice published in the Romsey Advertiser to the effect that at long last we have secured a tenant for the redundant football clubhouse. Those of you who followed the sad story of the departure of the club and the potentially serious financial problems it left us with will, we hope, be pleased to hear the news. Now that negotiations are concluded and the lease is ready to sign we are able to tell you that the prospective tenants are Sozo International who are a religious charity based in Romsey and who have been regular tenants of the Hall. They also made a generous donation to the children’s new play area. They intend to spend a lot of money on the building for their own leisure purposes and their scheme fits neatly in to our plans as it does not need planning permission. In the terms of the Trust Deed we have to call a meeting of the inhabitants of the village over eighteen to approve the letting and you are cordially invited to the Hall on Tuesday 15th March at 8pm to ask whatever questions you may have and we hope to support our recommendation in favour of the lease being granted. This new lease will not only lift a great financial burden from our shoulders but in years to come we hope it will enable us to undertake further projects at the Hall site.
