First Responders now have 22 volunteer First Responders from all areas of the village and the possibility of another 2 joining us later in the year.

Despite a cold start to 2010 we have not attended any calls during November and December so congratulations on being such a healthy village.

Unfortunately we are now only 11 active First Responders so obviously we cannot cover every night or indeed any days.

 

I thought it would be helpful to remind you all how the system works as you may have made a 999 call and wondered where the First Responders were if we did not attend. It is purely a voluntary service and as we have to attend in pairs with 11 of us it is difficult to cover the nights. At the moment we  are lucky if we can cover 4 nights a week. When the scheme first started we had 22 volunteers and were able to cover every night and most days, now with only 11 people it simply is not possible to offer the same level of cover.

 

We can only attend an incident if requested to do so by the Ambulance Service Control Room and they have changed their systems to ensure First Responders across the county only attend certain types of 999 calls.

 

So please if you have made a 999 call and wondered why no First Responder attended do not blame us, it could be that the Ambulance Service decided the call was not appropriate or it could be that no Responder in Awbridge was logged on at that time. We simply cannot operate a 24/7 service with such a limited number of people and I would ask anyone interested in becoming a First Responder to contact me directly or come along to one of our meetings. I’m sure that out of the 550 households we cover more than 11 volunteers are possible.
